About Us

Scientific research is a creative process.

Many scientists also have a passion for the arts. And for some of the most celebrated scientific minds, art is the substance that fueled their discoveries. As Albert Einstein famously put it, “[the theory of relativity] occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition. My discovery was the result of musical perception.” Furthermore, a paper by Root-Bernstein et al. (2008) also showed that Nobel laureates are significantly more likely to have artistic endeavours than other scientists.

To promote artistic pursuits in science, we created Artists in Science, an online community that allows researchers and students to share their creative works with their fellow scientists and to engage in friendly conversations about their artistic passions.
